Case Notes
Nine months after surgery, you're looking at the result of a periareolar breast augmentation performed on a 36-year-old patient. The incision was placed along the lower border of the areola, which keeps the scar within the natural color transition of that tissue. Silicone gel implants were positioned in a submuscular plane, meaning beneath the pectoralis muscle rather than directly under the breast tissue. That placement tends to keep the upper pole contour lower profile while the implant settles over time. The after photo shows the breast with noticeably more volume and projection compared to the before image.
